You know the stories, a friend meets their dream partner, every criterion is spot on a match, and euphoria overtakes them. The dreams melt like a Hershey bar on an Arizona sidewalk a few months later. (I just returned home from Arizona; the expected life of chocolate is about 3 minutes- if that.) 

But sadly, the same scenario is that you have encountered a dark heart who understands the power of future faking. Dark hearts scour your socials, listen intently to what matters to you, and, like a 3D printer, manufacture what you need to fall apart at the seams.

You are then a captured audience, and the ropes of dreams will hold you in place long enough to make it hard to exit cleanly. 

Can the fairy tale happen? SURE! We aren’t anti-love, and it is a beautiful gift, but sadly, that gift can be turned into a weapon far too easily!

How can we protect ourselves and those we Love from this tactic?

It’s pretty simple, actually:

• Be informed that this is a commonly used tactic
• Learn to recognize when the human elements of compromise and incompatibility are missing
• Understand that it takes months, maybe even longer, to see a person’s true character.
• Take the time to understand their connections and be intentional about the length and health of those relationships.
• Don’t make permanent decisions and commitments before you are sure you are compatible.

Once you see the truth, it will stick with you, and you can keep it in your pocket to share with those at arm’s length! Sparing hearts is not rocket science, but it does have to be intentional.
